    Whole Group Reading: 

    • Story:   Bread Comes to Life: A Garden of Wheat and a Loaf to Eat

    Pie in the Sky

    • Letter: Review (recognition, sound, recognizing pictures with sound)
    • Focus: listen for how you read with good expression, answer questions, learn vocabulary, develop book handling, singing songs, letter recognition, beginning sounds, ending sounds, substituting phonemes, blending phonemes, drawing conclusions, sequencing stories, and finding the medial sound, front cover, back cover, title page, holding print correct, and practice retelling.
    • Sight words: I, like, the, and, see, we, a, am, to, at, red, yellow, green, blue, black, brown, purple, orange, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, come, me, with, my, you, what, are, now, it, big, little, is, how, find, this, will, be, go, for, make, play, said, good, he, she, all, no, yes

    Math:

    • The learner will model subtracting whole numbers, using up to 10 concrete objects.

    Unit Study (Science or Social Studies):

    • The learner will investigate and understand basic needs and life processes of plants. Key concepts include plants need nutrients, water, air, light, and a place to grow to survive;­ plants change as they grow, have varied life cycles, and eventually die and offspring of plants are similar but not identical to their parents or to one another.
    • The learner will investigate and understand that there are simple repeating patterns in his/her daily life. Key concepts include the shapes and forms of many common natural objects including seeds, cones, and leaves; and plant growth.
    • The learner will investigate and understand that change occurs over time and rates may be fast or slow. Key concepts include natural and human-made things may change over time; and changes can be observed and measured.

    Homework…

    Monday Night:               Read at least one book with an adult and identify the front cover, back cover, title page. Work on comprehension of the story such as what happened, characters, and setting.

    Tuesday Night:               Practice the sight words in the section above. Student is to know them by “sight” they do not have to know how to spell them. Make index cards with them and flash them.

    Wednesday Night:           Using manipulatives (ex. Cereal, blocks, cars, etc) from home make one group of items no more than 10 and then tell student to take a certain number away to find what’s left. Such as: 4 cars take away 3, 7 bowls take away 2, 5 barbies take away 1, etc.

    Thursday Night:              Write 2 sentences using one sight word in each. The paper has been provided for you to use. Write with correct letter formation and work on writing neatly.

    March Spirit Days:          29th: Crazy hair day

    • Important Dates coming up:

    April 1st: 1pm release

    April 2nd: 1pm release and 9wks ends

    April 19th-26th: Spring Break-NO SCHOOL

    • Please be informed that we go to P.E. on Mondays and Wednesdays and that your child is to wear tennis shoes. If they do not wear tennis shoes they may be unable to participate in activities.
    • Library is on Tuesdays, be sure to bring your book back each week so you may get a new one when we start checking out books!
