STEM Camp Photo Showcase
The SCPS STEM Summer Camps were made possible through the Advancing Computer Science Education (ACSE) grant, and implemented in cooperation with the Southside Virginia Regional Technology Cooperative (SVRTC) and Longwood University's Institute for Teaching through Technology and Innovative Practices (ITTIP). Camps are designed to allow students an intensive immersion in topics on robotics, coding, and computer science centered on hands-on engagement with one or more robotics systems, via a small-class experience geared for no more than a 1:8 student:teacher ratio. The Hummingbird Bit robotics system was the centerpiece of the camp for our rising 6th and 7th graders.
Each camp features a Q & A session with a professional scientist or engineer. Our rising 6th and 7th graders heard from and spoke with Nicholas Metcalf, a senior radioimaging engineer with expertise in processing and analysis of MRI and PET scan data, who shared his journey into science and STEM, provided background on his field, and shared what it is like to work with institutions like the Mayo Clinic, Stanford University, and others.
Please be patient with the photo carousel below, it has a large number of photos of our students in action, and may take a little time to load!
