    Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome! The First grade team hopes everyone had a wonderful summer. We are thrilled to be back and are ready for a great year. The members of the team include: Mrs. VanDyke and Mrs. Graham. It is our belief that a child's success is based on a cooperative parent/teacher relationship.  At this early stage of learning, it is important to set routines in your child's life.  Try to set aside time each day to discuss what your child did in school.

    Dismissal Reminders:

Please remember that the school day begins at 8:00am and the school day ends at 3:15 pm. Your child will always be sent home as indicated on transportation sheet unless you provide written consent stating otherwise.  Please do not use Class Dojo to change dismissal plans.

    Homework Policy:

Students will receive homework assignments on Monday along with their Newsletter.  Homework is not graded, however, it helps your child practice their new skills at home with you.

    Behavior:

In First grade, we use ClassDojo along with a color code system to inform you of your child’s behavior each day.  Please initial each night after reviewing the behavior calendar.   I am always open to receiving messages on ClassDojo and email however, anything sent after 9:00 pm will be answered the next morning.

    Class Rules

    1.      Follow directions quickly.

    2.      Raise your hand for permission to speak.

    3.      Listen when someone is speaking

    4.      Always do your best work.

    5.      Be a caring friend.

    Birthday Celebrations:

When it’s your child’s birthday, we invite you to send in any treats you would like.  Celebrations will be done during our lunch time in the Cafeteria.  I will let you know about upcoming parties and if any help is needed.  We ask that ALL food brought in for parties be store-bought and unopened. Please make sure to let me know if there are any food allergies your child has.

The parent-teacher relationship is vital to your child’s success in school. By working together, we can help your child have a very fulfilling learning experience. Throughout the year, we will communicate with handwritten notes, phone calls, progress reports, schools newsletters, and report cards. We will also be available for parent-teacher conferences, as they are needed. If you ever have any questions or concerns, you can always reach us by calling the school or sending in a note in your child’s folder.
