Course/ Syllabus 2017-2018
Course Description: A double-credit course that is the first of a three-year program designed to successfully prepare students to become licensed cosmetologists after becoming program completers. Basic cosmetology skills are covered as indicated by the variouscosmetology 1 competencies. The Virginia State Board requires 840 hours over the three year course. Students are required to get 280 hours (per: The Va. State Board)
Prerequisite: None (the student should be in the 10th grade when entering this course)
Textbook: Milady Standard Textbook of Cosmetology Please bring your text book to class. The textbooks are allowed to be kept in the salon locker room. You will not be allowed to go in there to get it.

Materials needed: 2 Mannequins, 3-ring binder, pencil or pen, textbook, smock or apron, ENCLOSED White or Black ALL LEATHER SHOES. We want all students to be safe and practice safety at all times. (Sleeveless tops of any kind are permitted in the salon or exposed arm pits. This is unsanitary and can spread germs. We can’t permit that to happen. A smock or apron is required in the salon. We all want to look professional. Please bring textbook to class.
Attendance Policy: 17 days, counting against attendance, are allotted. On the 18th day counting against attendance the student receives NO CREDIT for the course. Southampton High Schools attendance policy should be reviewed for further clarification.
Grading scale: 100-93 A, 92-85 B, 84-77 C, 76-70 D, 69 & Below F, I- Incomplete, S- Satisfactory, U-Unsatisfactory
Cosmetology Grade Weighting: 10% homework, 10% quizzes (announced & unannounced), 40% test/projects, 20% practical/salon (competency completions, timed drills and manual skills) 20% theory/class participation and assignments.

extra help. (Except when I have bus duty)
6. ALL STUDENTS MUST READ THEIR CHAPTERS SEVERAL TIMES TO GET AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE MATERAL. This also helps you to attain the information.
Make-up work: It is the responsibility of the student to check and find out what was missed and to complete within the 5 day make-up allotment as stated by Southampton High school handbook. Club information: Membership in SkillsUSA is necessary in order to attend or participate in sponsored activities or competitions. SkillsUSA is co-curricular and is encouraged to join. The club dues will be $20.00 it covers state, district and national dues.
